COSMO Champions 1996-2022
2022 Champ "Hennigar"!
Courses Played: NK'Mip, Osoyoos, NK'Mip, Field of 20, Champs in Field=11. It was Scary Larry entering the final round as Hennigar and Rusty were tied at -8 with a couple of non-winners (Derk and Melon) 5 strokes behind. "Hennigar" held it together for a -1 round to hold off "Dumer" by 3 who stormed from off the pace with a stellar 65 (nobody else broke 70!).

2021 Champ "Diggy"
2020 Champ "Denwitch"
2019 Champ Billy "The Kid"
"The Kid" started off slow (4 over after 2, Moose on #16) at Big Sky but let his Birds do the talking as he had 11 on his own compared to 24 for the rest of the field! His 2 birdies to begin the final round were all the 2001 Champ needed to mow over the rest of the contenders as he extended his 3rd round lead of 2 over "Harry" to win by 9 over "Doc".
2018 Champ "Tender"!!!!!!
Don't adjust your set, "Tender" is the Champ after beating 2016 Champ Dumer in a one hole Playoff that saw more whiffs (1) and miracles from the Smag (1) than ever witnessed by the Cosmo elite? There were a few challengers to "Tender" on the final day but they all had unexpected catastrophes (Hennigar shot a Moose out of season?).
2017 Champ "Harry"
Field of 16, Champs in field=11. 2008 Champ Harry survived a blustery opening round net 74 then turned it on to win going away with a combined -20 the final 45 holes. Format may be changed in 2018 as GPB Sloaner struggled to a 15th place finish.
2016 Champ "Dumer"
Field of 16, Champs in the field=10
With a record amount of Champs in the field, to say that "Dumer" was a slow starter and an epic finisher would be the understatement of this century! The wee man with the big heart and bigger game had the highest gross score on Thursday and then put together a net 67-57-63 to beat "Sloaner" going away to capture his first Green Jacket.
2015 Champ "Dano"
Field of 16, Champs in field=8
Dano began the tourney in 2nd place behind Harry and used 2 solid rounds at Chateau (Net 71-68) to vault into the lead. He staggered a bit on the back 9 at Nicklaus but held it together for a 2 shot victory to become a 2 time Whistler Champ!
2014 Champ "Denwitch"
Field of 16, Champs in field=4
Denny started off strong with a sand induced net 58 on Thursday and cruised to the first wire to wire victory since "Zulu" in 2005. Even with the 2 holes-in-one within 15 minutes on Friday the 13th on the 13th hole (Markie Mark and Rusty)Denny maintained his focus to win by 8 over Dumer and Melon (It`s not a typo!).
2013 Champ "Batman"
Field of 16, Champs in field = 9
The curse of the leaders shirt was in full display in the final round as "Rusty" lost his 6 stroke lead in 4 holes. Sloaner put on a clinic to tie Batman with a Birdie on the 72 hole, but the Caped Crusader would not be denied as he closed out the GPB on the 3rd playoff hole for his 3rd Green Jacket!
2012 Champ ¨Horse¨
Field of 16, Champs in field = 8
After 3 mostly soggy and sometimes brutal rounds, ¨Horse¨was in perfect position in 2nd.
A ¨Bonsai¨tequila induced collapse combined with a steady round by ¨Horse¨ gave him the 18th Cosmo Crown at spectacular Hyde Mtn with a 5 shot victory.
2011 Champ "Doc"
Field of 16, Champs in field = 7
After posting three spectacular rounds in the 60's (63, 61, 60), Doc had a 8 stroke lead on Tender which he maintained after the top 2 had mediocre front 9's. Tender put on a jaw dropping charge as he sliced the lead to 3 with 3 to play only to succumb to another 18th hole meltdown as Doc extended his lead to 6.
2010 Champ "Batman", AKA "Ace"
Field of 16, Champs in field = 6
As it turns out the field didn't stand a chance as "Batman" started off steady, had a net 65 and 67 on Friday and then cruised to a 9 shot victory over "Tender" and Farmer. A perfect 5 hybrid into the hole on Whistler's 17th in the first 18 on Friday pushed him over the 13 year hump that has seen him go from Original Hero to a consistent Zero. A tequila rampage on Friday night couldn't slow the 1996 Champ down as he had a marathon to run, a date with destiny to keep and a photo-op with Amy to take!
2009 Champ "Hennigar"
Field of 16, Champs in field = 7
Wesley "Hennigar" didn't have his best back 9 but it was better than the other contenders as he held off "Hulkster" Horley, "Dano" Berard and "Rusty" Young to claim his first Green Jacket since 2003 to move him into the upper echelon of Cosmo Champs with his third Championship!
2008 Champion "Harry"
Courses Played: Fairview Mtn, Osoyoos (Park Meadows & Desert Gold), Nk'Mip
Field of 16, Only 14 finished. Champs in field = 7
"Harry" Dick held off a furious attack from Billy "The Kid" and "Bonsai" Bodman on the final few holes to tie "The Kid" to force extra hole(s). A horrific tee shot (went 30 feet) from "The Kid" had "Harry" looking good until he hit his into the Desert wasteland. "Harry" popped his next shot from a fluffy lie onto the green and made a clutch 8 footer for bogey to become the 2008 CHAMP!
2007 Champion "Dan-o"
Courses Played: Big Sky, Whistler, Chateau Whistler
Field of 16, Champs in field = 5
The tradition continued as the day 2 leader folded like a cheap tent, although that would be a massive understatement as "Doc" had the highest ever score by a leader to blow his 7 stroke lead over "Rusty". "Dan-o" was a full 15 shots back and never took the lead until "Tender" (It's not a typo) blew his own 4 shot lead on #18. With more broken ego's than your first sock hop, half the crew never even made it out on Saturday night.
2006 Champion "Oli"
Courses Played: Predator Ridge, Quail, The Bear
Field of 15, Champs in Field = 6
"Oli", the first 3 time winner staged a miraculous final round comeback to defeat "Hennigar" by a single stroke. "Hennigar" did have a 2 stroke lead on "Dan-o" entering the last day, but the 2 front runners sputtered down the stretch. "Oli's" final round net 61 eclipsed a 10 shot lead and was the lowest final round score by the champion in COSMO history.
2005 Champion "Zulu "
Courses Played: The Bear, Kelowna Springs, Sunset Ranch
Field of 16, Champs in field = 5
"Zulu" was on fire the first 2 days as he wore the leader's outfit with unusual flare after Day 1. 2 consectutive chip-ins on day 2 set the stage for the first wire to wire champion since "Hennigar" in 1999. His 6 shot victory over the rascally rabbit "Rusty" was a triumph and redemption for a player who had finished a distant last in 2002. With a record 17 net rounds in the 60's and an unheard of net 56 by "Horse", the Founders were tasked with developing a new "Cosmocap" formula.
2004 Champion "Oli"
Courses Played: Nicklaus North and Whistler twice.
Field of 12, Champs in field = 4
"Oli's" second Green Jacket victory was a display of power and consistency seldom seen on the tour. His net 69 on Friday was the only round in the 60's and he kept the pedal to the metal extending his 3 shot lead over "Farmer" to a 6 shot victory. The only question needing answered was the fact that in 2003 he finished dead last after a first place showing in 2002? Is he just playing with us?
2003 Champion "Hennigar"
Courses Played: Big Sky, Pemberton, Whistler
Field of 12, Champs in field = 5
Hennigars second victory featured one of the finest displays of ball striking and the "best ever" weather the boys have ever seen. 3 consectutive gross rounds in the 70's allowed "Hennigar" to dispose of "Sloaner" by 5 strokes and exorcise some final round demons of the past. Combine this with a terrific Montebello Chalet and all is good in the COSMO world.
2002 Champion "Oli"
Courses Played: Big Sky, Whistler, Pemberton
Field of 12, Champs in field = 4
The secret to being a champion? Don't be a 2nd round leader as they are required to wear the leaders shirt which undoubtedly leads to a massive hangover. This year "Sloaner" held a one stroke lead only to be nipped by "Oli" by a single shot thanks to his stellar net 71. The tours first visit to Whistler didn't disappoint except for Dano who was unexpectedly overcome with a massive munchie turned ralfing infliction.
2001 Champion "The Kid"
Courses Played: Rivershores, The Dunes, Eaglepoint, Sun Rivers playoff
Field of 12, Champs in field = 3
Another final day, another massive collapse combined with an amazing surge by the eventual champion. Tour Rookie "Oli" had built himself a 4 shot lead over "Sloaner" and a 9 shot advantage over "The Kid" before disaster struck. After the final round and a few beers back at the hotel it was discovered there was a tie, so the entire crew hopped over to the newly opened Sun Rivers for a sudden death playoff. With "Oli's" caddy forgetting his spikes he was forced to play in sandals which eventually led to "The Kid's" exciting victory in double OT.
2000 Champion "Sloaner"
Courses Played: Salmon Arm, Eaglepoint, The Dunes
Field of 12, Champs in field = 3
An 8 stroke victory by "Sloaner" shouldn't have been too big of a surprise, but the way he did it was. Tied with "Hennigar" after 2 rounds, the stage was set for a classic battle to see who would be the first 2 time champ. Well it was more like Faldo over Norman at the Masters as "Hennigar" turned into a chump with a very Gross 94 as Lucky Lennie stormed to a Cosmo record 75! The rumour that a Salmon Arm teenager was involved in a hot-dog stand altercation never was substantiated.
1999 Champion "Hennigar"
Courses Played: Eaglepoint, The Dunes, Rivershores
Field of 8, Champs in field = 1
Hennigar's awe inspiring victory was the tours first escapade in Kamloops which would go on to host 3 straight events. Although he didn't "choke" in 1999, the next decade is littered with less than clutch performances on the final day.
1998 Champion "Dev"
Courses Played: Quail Ridge, Predator Ridge, Gallaghers Canyon
Field of 20, Champs in field = 2
Dev's first and last appearance at the Cosmo, didn't read the rules that you count all your strokes every hole. Ensuing controversy led to a Cosmo splinter faction that formed their own unorganized and short lived Ride-er cup event. Sloaner remained with the COSMO as it's only original Founder.
1997 Champion "Sloaner"
Courses played: Kelowna Country Club, Gallaghers Canyon, The Harvest.
Field of 16. Champs in field = 1
Sloaner wins the coat with a last day miracle as he comes from behind to beat Batman by 1. Predator Ridge is rained out on the final day and the crew plays Harvest, with the final group using flashlights to find the 18th cup.
1996 Champion "Batman"
Courses played: Salmon Arm, Predator Ridge, The Harvest.
Field of 8. Champs in field = 0
"Batman" beat "Sloaner" by 4 due in large part to his ability to ignore the many distractions, especially on the last day.
